Maintenance is a seasonal thing for most homeowners because the home is the largest monetary investment most people make. So, even though we are still enjoying great weather here in Denver, there is a hint of fall in the air. Overnight, the trees are beginning to shift their colors from greens, to tinges of yellows and oranges.
Winter can be hard on the exterior of our homes here in Colorado, so August and September is the perfect time to prepare to pull out the check list and maintain the exterior and interior of your home!
From Better Homes and Gardens, the most frequently asked question is about important home maintenance tasks. They say, “The most important home maintenance tasks to keep your home safe and running smoothly are cleaning out gutters each spring and fall, cleaning and inspecting the HVAC twice a year and changing filters monthly, cleaning out clogs in plumbing, and checking for leaks and damaged pipes.”

Colorado State University Global has a summer checklist that might help you prepare for the colder season heading our way.
They recommend to power wash your walkways and driveway. Perfect time to wash and clean your windows, and the grill! The grill is showing much use after the busy summer grilling season.
They suggest that it is imperative to complete during the summer months, a test on your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. This should be included in every seasonal checklist.
Maintaining your home, keeps expensive, surprise repairs at a minimal and keeps the home sale ready in case the need arises. We did talk about painting the exterior of your home in our blog posted May 24,2024.
National Association of Realtors have put together a really concise checklist aimed at avoiding those costly repairs down the road.
“Seventy-eight percent of homeowners say they have buyer’s remorse over purchasing their home within the last 12 months, mostly because of unexpected repair costs, according to a survey from Hippo, a home insurance group. Proactive home maintenance, however, can help ward off many repair nightmares.”
Get out there while the weather is still beautiful, survey the exterior of the home, check on the roof and clean the gutters. A little each weekend will make your home ready to face up to the snowstorms winter will surely bring!
